Recap by phillip woo
Punted late California Spangle was too smart straightening a length on top after clearing to the lead 900m out to remain unbeaten after a debut win over the straight 1,000m He's set class record times to win both run and the future is very bright. Favourite Tornado Phantom stayed on well for second after chasing the winner along the fence. It was another good effort carrying more weight after winning on debut. Shining Red stayed on well to grab third 50m out after a prominent run on the fence. It was a nice performance on debut here. Turbo Power kept on one-paced over the final 200m after having to steady 200m out travelling effectively one-out, one-back. He's still a baby and the slight interference may have shaken him up. Smart Idea only got by beaten runners after biding his time one from the rear. He's been a regular at the Griffin races but failed to menace each time over this trip. Red Brick Glory produced only a brief bid early straight following a rails run behind midfield. He wasn't ready to handle the extra 200m and will need more time.
