Recap by phillip woo

Specked late Dragon Bachelor claimed the front 220m out after stalking the leader Choice Exchequer and staved off Fun Manager for a first win in nearly two years and third over this Valley trip. He should remain competitive if he back up over this course and distance. Fun Manager stuck on well following a box-seat run. Expect him to be saluting soon after giving a good sight to place in both outings this term. Best Jade Triumph kept plugging away following a handy run to just scrape home for third. He's stayed on well to fill the frame in both outings this term but is likely better suited at a mile. Island Flyer was put to the test 600m out after travelling fifth from the rear and was closing off well to make it a blanket finish for third. He does appear from his two runs to be near a bottom. High Speed Metro was getting going late down the outside after travelling second from the rear to miss fourth by a head bob. He's hit the line well in both starts this term.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (49) - YAU TONG HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1800Meters

ISLAND FLYER shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of ATOMIC BLAST, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

A short distance later, ISLAND FLYER was crowded for room between ATOMIC BLAST and SUPERNATURAL which became unbalanced after being bumped by ISLAND FLYER.

From wide barriers, HIGH SPEED METRO and SWEET BEAN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

For a considerable distance after passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPERNATURAL got its head on the side and lay out.

This resulted in SUPERNATURAL shifting out and bumping ISLAND FLYER passing the winning post on the first occasion.

SUPERNATURAL then raced tight inside ISLAND FLYER and made contact with that horse on a number of occasions approaching and passing the 1200 Metres.

Then making the turn near the 1000 Metres, ISLAND FLYER shifted in, resulting in SUPERNATURAL being awkwardly placed inside that horse.

After the 1400 Metres, the saddle of M L Yeung (MY FOLKS) shifted to the right side, resulting in him having to correct the position of his saddle.

When M L Yeung shifted his weight to the left side to correct the position of his saddle, MY FOLKS became unbalanced and shifted out near the 1350 Metres.

After this, MY FOLKS travelled wide and without cover.

Near the 650 Metres, HIGH SPEED METRO got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ATOMIC BLAST.

Rounding the Home Turn, ATOMIC BLAST shifted out and bumped ISLAND FLYER When questioned, K Teetan stated that it had been intended for ISLAND FLYER to utilize its light weight and be in a handy position.

He said however that, as had happened in the past, ISLAND FLYER did not begin well and this resulted in the horse having to race further back in the field than had been intended.

He said he was also asked to commence to make his run from about the 700 Metres if possible as the horse was carrying a light weight and ISLAND FLYER had previously taken some time to gather momentum.

He said in the early stages he was able to obtain a trailing position behind ATOMIC BLAST and shifted ISLAND FLYER to the outside of that horse after the 850 Metres so as to position ISLAND FLYER to be able to improve after the 700 Metres.

He said it was after the 700 Metres that he commenced to ride his mount along and ISLAND FLYER then finished off the race satisfactorily.

A veterinary inspection of SUPERNATURAL and MY FOLKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SWEET BEAN, DRAGON BACHELOR and FUN MANAGER were sent for sampling.
