Recap by phillip woo
Specked late at odds, Cheerful Boy was gifted an uncontested lead from a wide gate and came home clearly on top. He had shown progress in two earlier runs from outside alleys. Raging favourite California Joy closed off well travelling fifth in midfield but couldn't make any ground on the winner. The 17-pound swing in the weights was the likely culprit. Marvel Hero was suited by the pace but still came home strongly after travelling second from the rear carrying a refrigerator on his back for a placing. He's a winner waiting to happen. More than halving his quote Holmes Legend was able to make ground from behind midfield but he clearly needs a longer trip. Second favourite Beauty Prince was disappointing after a lovely run lobbing along in third. The big weight following a last start win might have been his undoing.
