Recap by phillip woo

Travel Brother was ridden patiently second from the rear along the rails, angled between runners for a clear run six deep at the 350m and finished willingly to take control 50m out for a first win at his 13th start. He was suited by the ground conditions. Kabayan enjoyed a lovely run one off in midfield, rounded the final bend five deep, swept to the front 150m out and couldn't hold off the winner's burst. Flame Hero was only good enough for third after tracking a soft pace in the box-seat. Gurus Dream bided his time behind midfield along the fence, stayed near the inside upon straightening and just came up short of placing after having to switch off a tiring Multivictory at the 200m. Firming favourite Beauty Only travelled three wide without cover behind midfield from a wide alley, swung the final bend with one wider out and finished well to just miss a Quartet spot. He prefers a fast surface. It was a big run in defeat.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eleven: (644)-WYNDHAM HANDICAP - Class 1 - 1600Metres

FLAME HERO and GURUS DREAM bumped on jumping.

In the early part of the Straight, ALL YOU WISH was directed towards the outside rail.

Passing the 400 Metres, REWARDING HERO was bumped by TRAVEL BROTHER which, when improving into tight running between REWARDING HERO and HARBOUR MASTER, was taken out when HARBOUR MASTER shifted to the outside of PLEASURE GAINS.

N Callan (BEAUTY ONLY) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of REWARDING HERO, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

N Callan was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 11 June 2015 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 31 May 2015.

In addition, N Callan was fined $35,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday.

A veterinary inspection of ALL YOU WISH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BEAUTY ONLY, TRAVEL BROTHER and KABAYAN were sent for sampling.

GENERAL:

1.

20 May 2015 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 4 (629) After reviewing the videos of this event, the Stewards believed it was appropriate to question G Mosse, the rider of KITAYA, regarding his riding of the horse.

G Mosse stated that he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly in the early stages despite it having drawn favourably and then to, if at all possible, shift the horse to the outside of runners in the Straight.

He said in accordance with his instructions he immediately took hold of KITAYA after the start was effected in order to position the horse behind runners.

He said passing the winning post on the first occasion KITAYA commenced to prove difficult to settle and near the 1100 Metres he shifted the horse away from the heels of TOWERING STORM after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.

He said he then followed RIYADH in a three wide position with cover, however, for some distance after the 900 Metres KITAYA continued to over-race when racing close to the heels of RIYADH.

He added he shifted KITAYA to the outside of RIYADH near the 500 Metres as that horse was not taking him into the race and after shifting KITAYA to the very outside of runners rounding the Home Turn, the horse finished off the race satisfactorily having in mind the manner in which it over-raced for the majority of the event.

He said after the race he recommended to connections that they consider dropping the horse back in distance in its future races as a more genuine pace may assist it in racing more generously.

Trainer Y S Tsui confirmed that he had instructed Jockey Mosse to ride KITAYA at the rear of the field as the horse had finished off the race very strongly when ridden quietly in the early and middle stages at its previous start.

He also confirmed that he asked Jockey Mosse to attempt and position KITAYA to the outside of horses rounding the Home Turn in order to make his finishing run to the outside of runners which was similar to the manner in which the horse was ridden at its last start.

He said having in mind the manner in which the horse raced in this event, he had subsequently entered KITAYA for a race over 1650 Metres at the Sha Tin racemeeting this coming Wednesday, 27 May 2015 and he is hopeful that a more genuine pace would allow the horse to settle better in the early and middle stages.
