New ITRA chief, Hong Kong’s Janet Ng, wants to develop tools to aid athletes as trail running goes mainstream
- Janet Ng is elected president of the International Trail Running Association following the resignation of Bob Crowley
- Ng wants to see more women taking part in trail running
The new president of the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) is focused on developing tools to help experienced and new runners as the sport expands.
Janet Ng, co-founder and organiser of the Vibram Hong Kong 100 (HK100), was elected to the role this week and said there are a number of tools in the pipeline.
ITRA is the largest trail running association worldwide. It is a non-profit organisation set up to protect trail running’s values and to promote the sport. There is a core team in Chamonix, which runs day-to-day operations, a steering committee, which decides the direction of ITRA, and national representatives who elect the steering committee and help deliver ITRA’s vision locally.
Ng succeeds Bob Crowley, who resigned because Covid-19 put pressure on his businesses so he did not have the time to dedicate himself to ITRA.
Aside from the intangible values, which are authenticity, humility, fair play, equality, respect and teamwork, according to ITRA’s website, Ng is focused on more tangible assets.
