The Vibram Hong Kong 100 has been cancelled as government group restrictions linger on. The 100km race, from Sai Kung to Tai Mo Shan, is one of the most competitive races of the calendar. It is the only race in Hong Kong on the Ultra-Trail World Tour and attracts big-name ultra runners from around the globe.

The Hong Kong government continues to enforce group size restrictions and, despite the announcement that the maximum number allowed will raise from four to six in bars and restaurants, it does little to help an event of nearly 2,000 people that is supposed to be just 11 weeks away on January 17.

“Due to the continuous restrictions imposed by the government in tackling Covid-19, after careful consideration, the 2021 edition of Vibram Hong Kong 100 – which is expected to take place from 15 to 17 January 2021 – will be cancelled,” the organisers posted on Facebook.

“If you have a confirmed place in the 2021 edition, please reply to the email that we just sent to you.”

The race is just the latest of many trail races to be cancelled. The Oxfam Trailwalker, one of the other high-profile 100km races, has been postponed from November to January 29.
