CrossFit: Mat Fraser says he hasn’t spoken to Rich Froning in over two years – ‘I’ve seen him just excommunicate people’

Five-time CrossFit Games champion Mat Fraser said although he lives in the same area as four-time champion Rich Froning, the two haven’t spoken recently.

“I’m trying to think how to answer this tactfully,” said Fraser, who was a guest on the The Darren Woodson Show. “I’ve lived in Cookeville for three years and Rich hasn’t spoken to me in about two and a half.

Fraser, who won his fifth consecutive CrossFit Games title in 2020, surpassed Froning’s four titles this year and is now considered the top CrossFitter of all-time.

“I asked around about what happened,” Fraser continued, “I was really concerned about it at first. But I still have never gotten an answer … since he did it to me, I’ve seen him do it to three or four other people where he just excommunicated them.”

The two competed against each other live back in 2015 during the 2015 CrossFit Open, helping CrossFit Games director Dave Castro unveil workout 15.1. Froning won the contest, which featured toes-to-bars, dead lifts and snatches.

Fraser added things started happening after he moved to Cookeville in 2017 following his second title win. Fraser came second to Froning in 2014 before coming second to Ben Smith in 2015.
