Some 80 per cent of respondents want the Games to be cancelled or further postponed, Kyodo reported on Sunday after their weekend telephone survey.

This is an increase on the previous poll conducted last month by broadcaster NHK, where 60 per cent wanted Tokyo 2020 to be called off or delayed again.
Tokyo declared a state of emergency last week as the capital battles a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Kyodo reported that 35.3 per cent want the Games cancelled and 44.8 per cent said they should be postponed. Tokyo 2020 was already delayed by a year until this July.
