American hurdler Infinite Tucker becomes an online sensation after launching himself Superman-style over finish line
- Texas A&M’s track and field star’s unconventional finish gets more than two million views on Twitter
- The 20-year-old breaks his personal best record with a time of 49.38 seconds in Arkansas track meet
With a name like Infinite Tucker you would expect to see something special from the Texas A&M 400m hurdling star. How about a “full Superman” at the finish?
That’s what the 20-year-old did as his outstretched, fearless, desperate dive won him the 400m hurdles final at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) track and field outdoor championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas over the weekend.
Tucker was engaged in a ding-dong battle with Texas teammate Robert Grant near the finish before his flight to glory helped him win gold the unconventional way ... and made him an instant online sensation.
Comments like “awesome” and “to Infinity and Beyond” and “that gotta hurt” have accompanied hundreds of tweets of the race that has since gone viral with more than 2.44 million views on Twitter alone.
Even former world indoor 60m champion Lolo Jones – an ex-Olympic 100m hurdler – weighed in. “I’m always looking for ways to improve. Just might have to try this out,” she tweeted with a video of the insane finish first supplied by SEC Network.
