In combat sports champions are not known for being quiet and understated. Muhammad Ali set the blueprint for fighters to talk the talk as well as walking the walk, but Felipe Lobo thinks it is all a bit unnecessary.

He challenges outspoken champion Jonathan Haggerty for his bantamweight Muay Thai belt this weekend at ONE Fight Night 19, and has had a lot to say about his opponent in the lead-up to Saturday’s contest.

Lobo though is taking a different tack, and told the Post he would teach Haggerty a lesson about being “more humble, especially when we are at the top”.

The bad blood between the two men stems from an altercation at ONE Fight Night 17. Lobo says he was confronted by Haggerty in the Lumpinee Stadium ring, after the Englishman had knocked out Fabricio Andrade.

Lobo says Haggerty’s team told him he was a nobody, just another reason the Brazilian has a point to prove this weekend.

Haggerty previously told the Post he liked to fight when there was animosity between himself and his opponent, but Lobo takes a very different view.
