ONE Championship: Jonathan Haggerty insists a Superlek rematch is ‘so close to coming together’
- ‘It’s only a matter of time,’ insists ONE’s bantamweight Muay Thai champ, who wants flyweight kickboxing king to follow him up a division
- The two fought outside ONE in 2018, but bout in Bolton ended on a doctor’s stoppage because of a bad cut around the Briton’s left eye

ONE Championship bantamweight Muay Thai champion Jonathan Haggerty expects to meet Superlek Kiatmookao in the ring again – and soon.
The two fought in Bolton, England, outside the ONE promotional banner in 2018, but the fight ended on a doctor stoppage in the second round because of a bad cut around the Briton’s eye.
Haggerty would go on the claim the ONE flyweight Muay Thai title in May 2019, but he relinquished the belt to Rodtang Jitmuangnon three months later, and failed in a bid to reclaim it before eventually moving up to bantamweight – where he now reigns.
In the meantime, Superlek claimed the flyweight kickboxing belt in ONE, but could be forced to follow in Haggerty’s footsteps and move up a division after missing weight by 5lbs for his controversial win over Rodtang in a non-title bout in September.
“Me and Superlek are so close to coming together and fighting,” Haggerty, who will face Fabricio Andrade for the vacant bantamweight kickboxing title at ONE Fight Night 17 next weekend in Bangkok said during an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit.
“It’s only a matter of time now.”
A potential meeting between the two in ONE’s 2022 flyweight Muay Thai grand prix did not materialise after “The General” withdrew from his opening round bout with Walter Goncalves because of a “medical issue”.
