ONE Championship: Superlek ‘not retiring’, wants to win MMA title if he beats Rodtang, Chatri says
- ONE boss laughs off reports Superlek could walk away from fighting – ‘he wants to make a boat load of money’
- Chatri denies promotion ‘intentionally’ delayed rebooking match-up – ‘sometimes big fights get lost in the shuffle’
ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong has played down reports that Superlek Kiatmookao could retire if he beats Rodtang Jitmuangnon next week.
The pair will collide in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 34 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, with Rodtang’s flyweight Muay Thai title on the line on September 22.
Reports in Thai media claimed Superlek said he was burnt out from fighting, and would prefer to teach Muay Thai seminars.
But Chatri laughed off the possibility of his flyweight kickboxing champ walking away, and insisted he is just getting started.
“He said that he would consider doing MMA, because it would be a brand new sport for him,” Chatri told the Post.
“Superlek considers the ONE belt the pinnacle of Muay Thai, then he will have achieved it all, but he stills wants to make a boat load of money.
