Superlek Kiatmookao has laughed off claims that Rodtang Jitmuangnon is “afraid” of him and has been running away from their long-awaited fight in ONE Championship.
“The Iron Man” will defend his ONE flyweight Muay Thai title against kickboxing king Superlek in a blockbuster Bangkok main event on September 22.
The two Thais were originally set to clash at Singapore Indoor Stadium in March, but “The Iron Man” withdrew injured just days out from the fight.
His withdrawal prompted criticism from some fans and fighters that he was “ducking” Superlek – a claim which grew in prominence after both men then said they would rather see “Thais keep the belts” instead of face each other.
“In my opinion, [neither of us] are afraid,” 27-year-old Superlek told ONE’s official website. “It’s purely an accident that caused our earlier fight to be cancelled. He got injured from training.
“I never see any opponent as afraid of me. They all want to fight with me. Especially for Rodtang, he is a world-class superstar. There is no reason for him to fear me.”
