ONE Championship: Seksan earns contract, Hong Kong’s Yu Yau-pui denied despite fourth straight win at Friday Fights
- ‘This is the greatest moment of my life,’ says Thai legend, who picks up a US$100,000 multi-fight contract at Lumpinee Stadium
- Yu’s wait for a ticket to the main roster goes on, though, even after a decision victory over Celest Hansen in Bangkok
Seksan Or Kwanmuang finally earned a US$100,000 main roster ONE Championship contract with a fifth-straight win – and a fifth consecutive performance bonus – at Lumpinee Stadium.
The 34-year-old Thai stopped Isaac Araya in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 29 in Bangkok.
“The Man Who Yields To No One” twice dropped his opponent in the second round, with the Spaniard failing to answer the referee’s count the second time.
“This is my goal, my objective, I always come to bring the best fight. I will yield to no one and I want the world to know how well I can fight,” Seksan told ONE commentator Mitch Chilson in a post-fight interview in the ring.
Seksan has picked up a performance bonus in each of his ONE Lumpinee victories, and it was no different this time, with 350,000 baht (US$9,800) awarded to him by Chatri Sityodtong, the chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, on Friday night.
“I would like to thank Khun Chatri for giving me the opportunity to showcase my skill and fight in Lumpinee stadium, and thank you for all the bonuses you have given me, so I can give my family a better living,” said Seksan, who was selling fruit at his local market during the pandemic to make ends meet.
