“The Kazakh” tested positive for a banned substance in an out-of-competition test on May 15 – 10 days after defeating McLaren by unanimous decision at ONE Fight Night 10 in Denver, Colorado.

The Australian (16-9), who is ranked No 4 in the martial arts promotion’s flyweight MMA division, saw a two-fight win streak snapped and a chance to challenge champ Demetrious Johnson go begging.

“I’d like ONE Championship to turn the fight to a No Contest please,” McLaren wrote on social media, after the Post broke the news of Akhmetov’s suspension.

“That’s 10 days after we fought, only would mean that he was doing it before as well, because he was not normal strong.
