ONE Championship: Alistair Overeem contacts officials about openweight Muay Thai grand prix, source says

Alistair Overeem has reached out to ONE Championship officials about being included in the promotion’s US$1 million openweight Muay Thai grand prix, an anonymous source told the Post.

The tournament was announced by CEO and chairman Chatri Sityodtong at the ONE Fight Night 6 press conference on Wednesday at the W Hotel in Bangkok.

“You’re going to see big guys and small guys,” Chatri said at the presser.

“You’re going to see some really wacky stuff. Openweight is openweight,” he later told the Post in an interview.

The 42-year-old Dutchman currently competes in the heavyweight division of Glory Kickboxing.

“The grand prix only for ONE fighters but we’re always constantly signing athletes, several we haven’t announced,” Chatri told the Post.
