Japanese strawweight prospect Kanako Murata was handed her first loss in night fights on a doctor stoppage after suffering a suspected broken arm against Virna Jandiroba on Saturday night’s UFC Vegas 29 preliminary card.

The 27-year-old former Rizin and Invicta star showed incredible toughness and grit to carry on fighting after suffering the injury in the first round.

Her corner did not throw in the towel, but she could clearly no longer hold her left arm up to protect her face, and the cageside-doctor called things off after the end of the second round.

Former Olympic wrestling star Murata burst into tears in her coach’s arms after her first loss in the UFC was confirmed, with Brazil’s Jandiroba, 33, picking up her third win in five outings.

Murata debuted in the promotion with a dominant unanimous decision win over Randa Markos last November. Her performance led cageside UFC analyst and former middleweight champ Michael Bisping to say he was having “Khabib Nurmagomedov flashbacks”.

But the 27-year-old’s left arm was compromised here after Jandiroba caught her with an arm bar at the end of the opening round, and it was deemed she could not continue for the final round.
