The Takedown | UFC: Jon Jones reignites ‘show me the money’ as negotiations for Francis Ngannou ‘mega fight’ hit overdrive
- ‘Bones’ has taken negotiations for his potential super fight with ‘The Predator’ back into the public realm, disclosing figures for the MMA world to see
- UFC president Dana White now has to find a way to get his most enigmatic star back in the ring after a long lay-off, or walk from the star’s demands
Last year when Jon “Bones” Jones was tweeting up a storm, feuding with UFC president Dana White over “Deontay Wilder” money to fight Francis Ngannou, he got a lot of sympathy from MMA fans, and empathy from some of his fellow fighters.
The UFC was heavy into pay disputes with a few of its more marquee stars apparently, including Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal, while lesser known names were complaining the company was not adequately paying them enough to make a decent living. Jones looked to be pulling all the right strings in asking White to show him the money.
What a difference a year makes.
The UFC heavyweight division has a new champion, none other than Ngannou (16-3), the Cameroonian-Frenchman who dispatched a timid-looking Stipe Miocic, who at one point himself looked unbeatable. Ngannou is now the UFC’s star of the moment, and the press tour has started poste haste.
Jones has once again taken to Twitter to publicly air contract negotiations, stating US$8-10 million is “way too low”.
