  • ‘I’m trying to stop that trend,’ says Hill, who fights Ashley Yoder this weekend at UFC Vegas 21
  • ‘Overkill’ ranked No 12 but feels she can get a title shot with two big finishes – ‘that’s the easiest way to get noticed’

Angela Hill may have lost three of her last seven fights, but don’t tell her that.

“I’ve been saying I’m on a seven-fight win streak, honestly I believe that in my head,” she told SCMP MMA this week. “The last seven fights have been the best of my career. I have to believe that, because that’s how I go in there with the confidence I should have if I’d won the last two fights.”

Technically, No-12 ranked UFC strawweight Hill (12-9) is on a two-fight skid, after losing two split decisions to Claudia Gadelha (18-5) and Michelle Waterson (18-8) last year. Before that, it was four wins in five, with another decision against Yan Xiaonan (13-1) going the Chinese fighter’s way in 2019.

But the 36-year-old American fights Ashley Yoder (8-6) on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 21, knowing an eye-catching performance could quickly change everything.

“I really want a finish – that’s the easiest way to get noticed for a title shot,” Hill said. “The strawweight division is pretty deep and you see a lot of girls who aren’t ranked breaking through just because they’re getting subs or TKOs. I wanna be one of those people.

“I feel I’m always right on the verge of being in the top five, and then something dumb happens. I’m trying to stop that trend. I feel every girl who’s ranked especially has a good chance of getting a title fight with two emphatic wins.
