Darina Mazdyuk vows to ‘conquer’ Bellator after female MMA fighter TKOs 529-pound male in Russia
- The 28-year-old Russian, who will compete at flyweight, hopes to debut for US promotion in next few months
- Mazdyuk went viral after first-round finish of YouTuber Grigory Chistyakov, aka Grisha Polnoe, in November
Now the 28-year-old Russian (4-1), who has competed at bantamweight and featherweight and fought Chistyakov at around 62kg (136 pounds), has revealed her plans to rule the US promotion.
“I will get even more attention when I start to conquer Bellator,” Mazdyuk told Drake Riggs for BJPenn.com.
She revealed Bellator contacted her about two weeks after the fight video blew up on social media, with the likes of Hollywood star Mickey Rourke, MMA referee Mark Goddard and celebrity bodybuilder Mike O‘Hearn all weighing in.
“The idea to hold this fight came from me. There was no quarrel with Grisha,” Mazdyuk said.
“There was an idea for a fight between a woman and a man. We had been looking for a long time for someone who would agree. The organisers found two fighters and from them I chose Grisha.”
Former bodybuilder Mazdyuk said she plans to drop down and compete in Bellator’s burgeoning flyweight division. She is hoping to make her debut in the next few months, though no date or opponent has been set.
