UFC: Gilbert Burns calls out Kamaru Usman for title shot after dismantling Tyron Woodley
- ‘Durinho’ secures dominant decision win vs former welterweight champ at UFC Fight Night, with scorecards of 50-45, 50-44, 50-44
- ‘I got a lot of love and respect for you,’ Burns tells training partner Usman – ‘if they wanna make the fight in July, I got no scratches or anything’

Gilbert Burns called out welterweight champion and teammate Kamaru Usman after dismantling former champion and No 1-ranked Tyron Woodley in a dominant unanimous decision win at UFC Fight Night on Saturday.
“Durinho” Burns (19-3) – who was considered the underdog for the event headliner at the UFC Apex Arena in Las Vegas – dominated the 38-year-old Woodley (19-5-1) in each round with multiple knock-downs and takedowns. The judges had it 50-45, 50-44, 50-44.
The 33-year-old Brazilian even secured a 10-8 first round on two scorecards, putting in an equally-commanding performance as when Usman took the title off Woodley in March 2019. Burns said he wants to face “The Nigerian Nightmare” next despite the pair being training partners at Sanford MMA in Florida.
“I love the champ, my training partner Kamaru Usman, but gimme the shot,” Burns said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier on the ESPN+ broadcast.
“I’ve got a lot of respect and love for you. I beat the former champion in the same way – maybe even better. If they wanna make a fight in July, I got no scratches or anything, I can do it.”
