Former UFC champion Tito Ortiz says he received a phone call about fighting boxing legend Mike Tyson upon the latter’s much-speculated comeback.

The 45-year-old Ortiz (professional MMA record 21-12-1), who is signed to MMA promotion Combate Americas, is on a three-fight win streak having beaten Alberto Rodriguez, Chuck Liddell and Chael Sonnen last year.

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old Tyson (professional boxing record 50-6) announced he was “back” after video footage of his pad work went viral earlier this month.

“I was watching Mike Tyson hit pads with one of my old trainers, Rafael Cordeiro, and Tyson looked like the old Tyson. Fast, speedy and powerful. I was like ‘wow, Tyson’s gonna make a comeback?’,” Ortiz told TMZ.

“All of a sudden, two days later I get a phone call and somebody’s asking me ‘what do you think about fighting Mike Tyson?’ I was like ‘uh, really?’ This is an opportunity of [a] lifetime, I’m in.”

Despite Tyson being seen with MMA coach Cordeiro, he has yet to express interest in a crossover fight. Previous rumours included a boxing bout with former All Blacks rugby star Sonny Bill Williams.
