Anthony “Lionheart” Smith (33-15), who challenged for Jones’ (26-1, one no contest) title in a unanimous decision loss in March of 2019, had riled Jones in the build-up to Wednesday night’s fight against Glover Teixeira, by claiming he would simply outlast the UFC light heavyweight champion to get the belt if he had to.

“It seems like almost everyone who trash-talks me during their fight week ends up losing,” Jones tweeted, after Smith was badly beaten up in a shock TKO defeat. “These boys thinking about being the champ, instead of focusing on what it takes to get there.”

That was fairly tame, however, compared to a tweet “Bones” had earlier deleted as he watched the fight unfold.

“Good thing Glover is not on the hunt for a new TV,” he wrote, taking another jab at Smith’s home invasion last month. The two former rivals had clashed when Jones appeared to make light of the ordeal, where Smith had to fight off an intruder for five minutes in his garage at 4am before police arrived.
