Demetrious Johnson has ‘no idea what the hell is going on’ with ONE Championship title shot
- ‘Mighty Mouse’ hasn’t trained MMA in five weeks with scheduled bout vs flyweight champ Adriano Moraes on May 29 in Manila highly doubtful
- ‘I don’t even know if I can book a ticket to Singapore right now to get acclimated to the timezone,’ says Johnson
Demetrious Johnson is set to challenge Adriano Moraes for the ONE flyweight title on May 29 in Manila, Philippines. To say the lead-up to this fight is unusual for him would be an understatement.
First off, there is the question of whether it will actually happen as planned. While the bout currently has a date and setting, Johnson has doubts that he will be able to make it to Asia – let alone leave the United States.
“The fight’s still scheduled for May 29,” the former UFC flyweight champion told the Post. “Do I think it’s going to happen? No, I don’t. I don’t even know if I can book a ticket to Singapore right now to get acclimated to the timezone.
“Singapore keeps getting more cases. I have no idea what Manila's cases are looking like. Florida just opened their beaches up – people are out there partying on the beaches. So I have no idea what the hell's going on.”
If the fight does go ahead as planned – in Manila or even on ONE’s home turf in Singapore – Johnson will have to find a way to prepare without access to his gym.
