The Cuban-American’s record-breaking five second knockout of Ben Askren last July scooped both knockout of the year – as voted by fans – and performance of the year – as voted by promotion president Dana White.

“The way that he knocked Askren out, how fast he did it, everything about it was incredible,” White said at the “UFC Honour Awards”. “It took Jorge Masvidal to a different level.”

In contention for performance of the year was also Zhang Weili’s strawweight title-winning blitz of Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Night Shenzhen; Henry Cejudo earning “double champ” status against bantamweight Marlon Moraes at UFC 238; Israel Adesanya’s middleweight title win against Robert Whittaker at UFC 234; and Bryce Mitchell’s unique submission of Matt Sayles at UFC Fight Night Washington.

“How do you not love Weili Zhang’s win over Jessica, especially how she had just won the title [against Rose Namajunas] – she is such a beast. Henry Cejudo had an unbelievable year, and so did Adesanya,” White said.
