Justin Gaethje has told Conor McGregor he has to go through him or Dustin Poirier before he can consider getting a lightweight title shot.
Tony Ferguson looks set to challenge champion Khabib Nurmagomedov next in April. The Russian easily dispatched former interim champion Poirier in September, but Gaethje threw his name into the mix with a first-round TKO against Donald Cerrone.
So “The Highlight” seemed a little bit confused, during an appearance on Michael Bisping’s Believe You Me podcast earlier this week, that former two-weight champion McGregor was set to make his comeback against “Cowboy” on January 18. That fight has now been all but confirmed.
“If Conor McGregor can fight Donald Cerrone and jump over me to fight Khabib, then I get it’s all about money, but I’m sitting right here, I’m f****** ready to go,” Gaethje said.
“I’m training. Donald Cerrone just got finished two times in a row. I get that Conor’s coming off a loss, but he’s calling for a title fight.
