UFC: Jon Jones mocks ‘pathetic’ Israel Adesanya’s Twitter trolling after ‘boomer, noob’ insults
- Light-heavyweight champion vows not to speak to Adesanya on social media until 2021
- Middleweight king Adesanya returns fire with a barrage of memes as feud simmers
The pair have turned up the back-and-forth on Twitter since Adesanya (18-0) became champion in October, with “Bones” Jones (25-1, 1 no contest) clearly ruffled by the Nigerian-Kiwi’s online trolling.
Their dispute began after Jones said he would welcome Adesanya to the 205-pound division to see who truly is the better fighter, to which Adesanya said he would prefer 185-pound and would also want to defend his title next year before they meet a year later.
Their mutual disdain is likely fuelled by previous physical and stylistic comparisons between then-emerging “Stylebender” and elite fighter Jones. The pair deny such comparisons, citing their own unique skill sets and lifestyles.
Adesanya, 30, is a self-described “meme-majesty” with well-documented interests in niche Japanese anime and manga. Jones, 32, is notorious for being a rule-breaking partygoer during his peak fight days. He aimed fire at Adesanya after the latter posted a meme making fun of Jones’ comments in the past about taking cocaine before his fight with former light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
