Chuck Liddell has told BJ Penn “it just really isn’t worth it at this point in our lives” after his fellow UFC Hall of Famer was knocked out in a bar fight.

Penn got into his second Hawaii street brawl in the space of two months on Tuesday night, getting dropped by a shirtless antagoniser outside the Big Island’s Lava Shack bar after egging him on to “punch me again”.

The 40-year-old former lightweight and welterweight champion found the same man later in the night and rained down blows on his head before security intervened.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Liddell, 49, told TMZ Sports that there is a better way to deal with drunk hecklers challenging you to fights. “I usually have fun with them,” he said. “I don’t get that problem very much.

“I usually just joke around with them, I have a good time with it. We don’t run into that trouble too much. Maybe it’s I’m a lot bigger than people thought I was.”
