Hong Kong has continued its build-up to November’s National Games, which it will co-host, by staging a test event for beach volleyball at Victoria Park this weekend.

Lo Wai-yan, previously a member of the Hong Kong team who finished ninth at the Asian Games in Hangzhou two years ago, said the park was a good choice of venue, even if it involved transporting sand to the middle of a city that has an abundance of real beaches.

“Victoria Park has a lot of experience,” she said on Saturday, citing the Hong Kong Tennis Open and an international beach volleyball event in 2005.

“But also, Causeway Bay is really efficient, it’s easy for people to come here, there are lots of restaurants and hotels.”

Lo, who was representing local team Efx24 LCCW, will not play at the National Games but is poised to be a trainer for the Hong Kong squad.
