Hong Kong cycling coach to step down, but Sarah Lee out of the running to fill acting role
- Cycling officials confirm long-term head coach Shen Jinkang will depart at end of year, after nearly three decades in charge
- Sports Institute seeking an acting replacement but two-time Olympic medallist Lee is not among list of potential candidates

Cycling officials confirmed long-term Hong Kong boss Shen Jinkang will depart at the end of the year, but two-time Olympic bronze medallist Sarah Lee Wai-sze will not be among the list of potential acting replacements.
Reports of Shen’s exit first emerged on Thursday after a recruitment advertisement – with a December 15 deadline – was seen on the Hong Kong Sports Institute website.
“It’s not expected the new head coach will be available for January 1, so the decision on an acting role has to be made quickly as there are only one and a half months until the end of the year,” Leung Hung-tak, chairman of the Hong Kong Cycling Association, said.
“We’d like to have someone to take over Shen’s job as soon as possible but it is down to the institute for the announcement, and normally they will not just pick someone from outside the team.”
Lee is not being considered for the post, however, despite a decorated career with three World Championship golds medal and five Asian Games titles.

The retired former cyclist has taken coaching courses operated by the association, but her attendance record did not fulfil the requirements needed to take the examination.
