Women’s World Cup 2023: Hong Kong’s first woman boss in top-flight men’s football, Chan Yuen-ting, chosen as Fifa expert for tournament
- Jiangsu coach, the first woman in the world to lead a men’s club to a top-flight title when she won the Hong Kong league, joins Fifa Technical Study Group
- She will be based in Dunedin to analyse matches during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in July and August
Now she will achieve another distinction by joining Fifa’s Technical Study Group, having previously served in similar positions in Asia but never at global level.
“I am so glad to have the opportunity of analysing the women’s game at the highest level,” Chan said from Jiangsu. “I have done it before for the Asian Cup, junior Asian Cup and youth Asian Cup, and also at the last Women’s World Cup but for Team China.
“The World Cup is a marquee showpiece of women’s football, and there should be a lot of things we can learn from these top teams, and insights for the development of the game.”
Chan said she would work with a group of experts led by American Jill Ellis, the former head coach of the United States women’s team who captured back-to-back World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019.
