Hong Kong boss Andersen recalls banned Japan bad boys for spring friendlies against Singapore and Malaysia
- Shinichi Chan, Poon Pui-hin and Tse Ka-wing named in 34-man preliminary squad after serving 1-year suspensions
- Hong Kong expected to play Singapore on March 23 before flying to Malaysia for match 5 days later
Hong Kong boss Jorn Andersen has named three players handed year-long bans connected to an alcohol-fuelled rampage in a hotel in Japan in his latest squad.
Shinichi Chan, Poon Pui-hin and Tse Ka-wing have been included in a 34-man group for Hong Kong’s two international friendlies next month, against Singapore and Malaysia.
The trio were among 11 under-23 players slapped with lengthy suspensions following an investigation into an incident during the AFC U23 Championship qualifier in Hirono, Fukushima in 2021.
After Hong Kong lost their final game 4-0 to the hosts, several intoxicated players vandalised rooms, while two were involved in a drunken brawl.
Andersen’s team will play two matches next month, Singapore at home and Malaysia away as part of the team’s preparations for the Asian Cup finals later this year.
Both goalkeeper Tse, who plays for Wofoo Tai Po in the Hong Kong Premier League, and defender Chan, who is with Real Union in the Spanish third tier, have been selected for the senior squad before.
