The Hong Kong duo, wearing their Yonex-branded Bauhinia uniforms, impressed against the Chinese pair of Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping but felt the effects of going three games in their opening win over Malaysia on the first day of the competition.

Tse, who carried the flag for Hong Kong along with fencer Cheung Ka-long at the Opening Ceremony on Friday night, was a bit disappointed after the 2-0 loss, ruing the tough start at the Musashina Forest Sports Plaza the previous day.

“After the middle of the first game we’ve lost a bit of our speed and we need to be at our highest speed if we want to keep up with them. It was then that they pulled away,” Tse said.

“Three games late last night affected us a bit, we did not get sufficient rest as we needed to eat and receive some treatment … physically and mentally we may not be at our best.
