Hong Kong women’s national team defender Toni Ho Wan-tung has finally realised her dream of playing overseas after signing for Scottish outfit Queen’s Park this week.
The 24-year-old Ho – known as “Ah Mui” – joined from Kitchee SC after impressing in a trial. Subject to international clearance, Ho will become the third Hongkonger to play in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) 2 after Vicky Chung Pui-ki and Chun Ching-hang, who had spells at Kilmarnock last season.
“I’m very excited. I’ve been wanting to play overseas for a long time and it’s good to finally be in Scotland to meet the team,” said Fanling native Ho, who has been a Hong Kong regular since the age of 19.
“It’s my pleasure to represent Hong Kong – not everyone gets this opportunity. I’m very proud to be one of [these players] and I will try to do my best so people can see that women’s football is growing in Hong Kong. Maybe it will get more support and sponsors to develop women’s football.”
The move to Glasgow’s South Side means Ho will be playing for the country’s oldest association football club. Queen’s Park men’s have won the Scottish Cup 10 times, trailing only powerhouses Celtic and Rangers.
