Relief for gym operator Nana Tsang as government relaxes Covid-19 measures
- The 2019 wushu world championship silver medallist says the government’s decision to reopen her gym and other leisure facilities was good news
- She said her business has been hit hard by last year’s protests and the social distance measures implemented to control the pandemic
Wushu exponent Nana Tsang Hoi-lan is relieved that her fitness and combat gym can reopen again following a relaxation of government measures designed to stop the spread of Covid-19.
With no more positive cases recorded in the city, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor announced on Tuesday that fitness centres and billiard establishments (centres) can resume operating on Thursday.
“I have been watching the [government] news when the press conference began at 3pm,” said Tsang, who owns the ladies-only Nana Gym in Wan Chai. “They said there would be some restrictions in reopening the gym but we have received no details so far. Anyway, this is the good news we have been waiting for.
“The gym has to pay HK$100,000 rent a month plus other utility costs. Our business had been severely affected since the social unrest began last June. We have been trying our best to keep the gym [afloat] during this period and hopefully we can start our [training] courses as soon as possible so that students can return and alleviate our [financial] burden,” said Tsang, who won a silver medal for Hong Kong at the 2019 wushu world championships.
Hong Kong recorded no new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday with the tally remaining at 1,040. It marks the 10th time in the past 16 days that there have been no new cases.
