The 25-year-old Hong Kong fencer toppled Ana Maria Popescu of Romania by a mere two points, leading the rankings list with 184 while the Romanian is on 182. Reigning world champion Mara Navarria of Italy is third with 173 points.

Kong has had an excellent season so far, claiming four podium finishes out of five World Cup series events. She won both the Havana and Barcelona legs at the beginning of the year and came second in Tallinn, Estonia, in November.

Kong became the first-ever Hong Kong fencer to reach number one in the world rankings in March, keeping pole position for almost two months before surrendering it to Popescu a fortnight ago after finishing a disappointing fifth at the Grand Prix in Cali, Colombia.
