Gymnast Shek Wai-hung reaches all six finals
Hong Kong ace soldiers on through pain but is hoping for enough time to allow shoulder to recover
Top gymnast Shek Wai-hung hopes he can take a sufficient break to heal a shoulder injury, which has haunted him for a year.
The 2012 Olympian took part in his first international event yesterday since the London Games and finished third in the men's all-around at the International Invitation Championships at Ma On Shan Sports Centre. He also reached all six individual event finals today.
"My performance was not the best because of the injury," said the 21-year-old. "I had to rush back to the Sports Institute for treatment yesterday after practice and also needed massage from my coach during today's competition.
"I will drop the rings final because of the injury, as it's very demanding participating in all six events."
Shek said he had inflammation in the ligaments in his shoulder joint whenever he trained intensively. The injury occurred during the London Games test event last January.
"It is very painful and I hope to get some total rest before the next major events, the two World Cup legs in March," he said.
