HSBC Women’s World Championship: Hannah Green skips Thailand to prepare for title defence
Australian world No 6 decides to miss first stop of LPGA’s Asian Swing to get in more practice and to acclimatise to Singapore’s humidity

Hannah Green is a notable absentee from the Honda LPGA Thailand this week, an event the Australian has opted to skip for the first time in four years as she prepares to defend her HSBC Women’s World Championship title in Singapore.
Green kick-started her best season to date with a win at Sentosa Golf Club last March, and followed that up by taking the LA Championship and BMW Ladies Championship.
The 28-year-old had six top 10 finishes and was the first Australian since Karrie Webb in 2006 to win at least three times in a season, but that did not translate to success in the five majors, where Green missed two cuts and had a best finish of a tie-for-16th at the US Women’s Open.
She has reacted to that partly by changing her scheduling, but there was no drastic action taken during a three-week off-season at home.
“With the ranking that I am in the world, I expect better things of myself,” the world No 6 said. “Everyone wants to try and peak for those majors, and perhaps I have put too much pressure on myself.

“This year with the scheduling, I’ve tried to give myself the best chance for feeling fresh for those weeks as they are a bit more draining than typical, but nothing much has changed. I haven’t really had to work on too many things in my swing that have been too drastic.”
