A weekend which many predicted could open up the English Premier League title race ended up doing the opposite.

Arsenal had the chance to close the gap on leaders Liverpool with the visit of lowly West Ham, with Arne Slot’s side travelling to Manchester City the following day.

But the Gunners were beaten 1-0 and Liverpool? Well, let’s start there.

Rampant Reds

A first win at the Etihad Stadium since 2015 all but handed Liverpool a second English Premier League title as they opened up an 11-point lead over Arsenal.

First-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai earned the visitors a 2-0 lead.

If there had been one “concern” over Liverpool it would be their away form in comparison to when they play at Anfield, but only four of their remaining 11 matches are away from home.

While the Gunners may have a game in hand, it is difficult to see anything other than a waltz to the title from here from a Liverpool side who have been imperious from the opening weekend.

For City, meanwhile, that’s an eighth league defeat of the campaign and they sit fourth, with a real battle to qualify for the Uefa Champions League again next season.
