Hong Kong are poised to confirm men’s international football friendlies with Brunei and Cambodia next month, as Jorn Andersen’s team finalise preparations for a crunch two-leg World Cup qualifying tie against Bhutan in October.

Manager Andersen’s side tackle Bhutan home and away on October 12 and 17 for the right to advance to a four-team Asian qualifying group for the 2026 tournament, already featuring Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

And they will limber up by playing host to Brunei on September 11 after facing Cambodia away on a date yet to be confirmed.

The city’s national team have struggled to score goals in the past year, and lost 1-0 in each of their two most recent outings, a pair of friendly contests against Vietnam and Thailand in June.

Their next chance to address that lack of thrust comes against a Cambodia team sitting 176th in Fifa’s official men’s rankings, 27 places beneath Hong Kong in 149th.
