Demba Ba calls out ‘racism’ before historic PSG and Basaksehir walk-off in Uefa Champions League
- Former Shanghai Shenhua striker spoke out against racism in Chinese Super League and called on football to help China’s Uygurs
- Incident in Uefa Champions League game stems from language of Romanian fourth official in the sending off of assistant coach Pierre Webo

Former Chinese Super League striker Demba Ba led players from both sides off the pitch in the Uefa Champions League game between his Istanbul Basaksehir side and Paris Saint-Germain over an alleged racist incident involving a match official.
The unprecedented walk-off, which was led by the Turkish Super Lig side and followed by last year’s Uefa Champions League runners-up, followed protests by players from both teams after the sending off of Basaksehir assistant coach Pierre Webo.
Fourth official Sebastian Coltescu spoke to referee Ovidiu Hategan in their native Romanian that he should red card Webo.
“Go and give it (the red card) to the black one, this is not possible (tolerable), go and identify him, go verify, the black one over there,” Coltescu is reported to have said about Webo.
The assistant coach repeatedly asked the official, “Why you say negro?” as he was shown the red card.
