Chinese No 2 Wang Qiang, the country’s highest ranked player in the women’s singles tennis tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, is out.
Wang was sent packing in straight sets by the Spanish No 7 seed Garbine Muguruza at the Ariake Tennis Park in their second round meeting.

It took just over an hour for the world No 9 to win 6-3, 6-0 as the Tokyo sun baked down on the Olympic hard courts. She will face either the Czech No 10 seed Petra Kvitova or Alison van Uytvanck of Belgium.
Wang had beaten the Spaniard in their two previous meetings, both of which came in 2018, but this first career loss ends her Olympics as she is not playing in the doubles. She will have to take solace from improving on five years ago where she was knocked out in the first round of the Rio 2016 Games.
