The Fujian sturgeon will not renew his contract “after his controversial social media post triggered public anger”, as reported by Xinhua

The posts appeared to show Lawson at a nightclub, with one a photo of him appearing to get a lap dance and the other a message saying “Chinese woman got cakes on the low … Might have to change up my stance soon lol”. Initial reports suggested that the club was a strip club but Lawson refuted that in a follow-up post.

Sportando’s Emiliano Carchia shared Lawson’s posts from Instagram, which Xinhua reported had been “criticised for insulting Chinese women”. Carchia stated that Lawson has been “banned for life from Chinese CBA”.

The comments section of his Instagram were littered with racial abuse after the posts, and several messages demanding he leave China.
