Zheng Jie loses to Coco Vandeweghe in Den Bosch Open final
China’s Zheng Jie hopes of adding to her career titles were dashed when she lost to American Coco Vandeweghe in the Den Bosch Open final in the Netherlands on Saturday.
Vandeweghe landed her first her first WTA title, beating Zheng 6-2, 6-4. The 22-year-old American entered the tourna ment as a qualifier and was playing in just her second final. Zheng, a grass specialist who reached the final four at Wimbledon in 2008, was unable to find an answer to Vandeweghe’s powerful serve.
Vandeweghe served eight aces and won her first service 27 out of 28 times. She broke Zheng in the third and fifth games of the first set, and again in the third game of the second set. The match was over in 70 minutes.
Zheng won in her last final appearance in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2012, for her fourth career title.
