The New York Jets have informed Aaron Rodgers that they are moving on from the star quarterback after two seasons, the NFL team have said in a statement.

“Last week we met with Aaron and shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback,” Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey said.

“It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures,” he added.

Rodgers, 41, regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, was traded to the Jets in 2023 after a stellar 18-season career with the Green Bay Packers.

He made his debut in week one against the Buffalo Bill, but his 2023 was cut short after only four snaps in that game due to an Achilles tendon rupture.

He returned for the 2024 campaign, but the Jets had a poor season, which ended in a 5-12 record.
