Cattelan Italia brings family furniture-making heritage and stylish innovations to Hong Kong’s Home Square
Family business brings latest penthouse-quality Europa and Keramik lines to Hong Kong
The Cattelan story began in Italy, in 1979, when Giorgio and Silvia Cattelan started their marble-based furniture company, making products such as dining and coffee tables for export.
The furniture trade is part of the Cattelan family’s heritage. Giorgio was the youngest of seven brothers, five of whom went into the furniture business. In 1995, his sons Lorenzo and Paolo also joined the company, which now designs products in wood, glass, leather and metal that have also been exported to 104 markets around the world, including Hong Kong.
The family’s first Cattelan Italia store opened in HomeSquare and it provides a wide selection of the latest dining tables, chairs, sofas, beds, sideboards and lighting.
Cattelan’s versatility and expertise in developing and combining different materials into its designs have allowed the business to stay ahead of the luxury furniture sector’s evolution.
“Keramik [ceramics] has been a hot, ongoing trend,” Cattelan says. In 2015, the company developed a new technique that allows for ceramic surfaces that look like marble to come with “harder, heatproof, waterproof, scratchproof features”, the company adds. As a result, the “demand for marble tops has been coming back to life”, Cattelan explains.
