Thai transgender business mogul Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip just made history as the first woman to own global beauty pageant Miss Universe Organization in its 71-year history. The news, which was shared by Jakrajutatip’s company on October 26, marks a phenomenal milestone for the multimillionaire, with the deal costing an estimated US$20 million, according to NBC.
With gorgeous, model-like looks and a six million follower count on her Instagram page, the 43-year-old has been making waves in the business world for a while now. Jakrajutatip has even appeared in local versions of Project Runway and Shark Tank in her home country, per NBC.
She’s also known for supporting trans awareness in Thailand by setting up the Life Inspired for Transsexual Foundation (LIFT), which advocates for transgender rights.

During an interview for Bangkok Post, Jakrajutatip claimed that, before her transition, she studied in an all-male school in Thailand where she was bullied by her classmates and even sexually harassed by her teacher because of her gender identity. This led her drop out and she later started working at a gas station to support herself. Eventually she left her home country to study in Sydney, Australia instead.

Jakrajutatip told The Times of India that she always felt like a woman, but her parents weren’t supportive of her. She said that she would often put on her mother’s clothes as a child and wanted to become a girl. Despite her parents’ opposition, she began her transition while she was studying in Sydney. However, she decided to retain her original deep baritone voice, as she considers it a part of her identity too.
She has a strong educational background

Despite originally quitting school in Thailand to study in Australia, Jakrajutatip boasts an extensive educational background. She graduated from Australia’s Bond University where she studied international relations, has a certificate in real estate development from Chulalongkorn University, and also bagged a certificate from the Thai Institute of Directors Association’s Director Accreditation Program (DAP), as per Elite Plus Magazine.
After graduating, Jakrajutatip returned to Bangkok to help manage her family’s video rental business while she worked towards her goal of setting up her own company, the article stated.
She went from gas station worker to successful CEO

Though Jakrajutatip had a tough childhood and she started her career at a gas station, today she is the chief executive officer of JKN Global Media, which is a top content management and distribution company in Thailand, as per GMA Network.
And she didn’t stop there. Jakrajutatip expanded JKN and started selling health and beauty products, offering more than 50 items, and acquired drink factories and other digital news channels as well, per Bangkok Post.

Now, with around 15 companies under its wing, she has led her business to be involved in content distribution, beverages, food supplements, beauty and consumer products, news licensing and ad sponsorship, according to the article.

Thanks to her business ventures, Jakrajutatip was named the first Thai and first transgender woman to receive the Asia Media Woman of the Year award at the Content Asia Summit in Singapore in 2019, reported Bangkok Post. The same article stated that she also helped bring Indian series to Thai TV, which earned her the nickname “Queen of Indian Content”.
The Thai mogul has now taken a giant leap in her entrepreneurship by fully acquiring the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), with Jakrajutatip claiming the title as owner and helming the beauty pageant, says CNN Philippines. The news portal reported that she bought the company from IMG Worldwide for an estimated US$20 million. IMG acquired the company from former US president Donald Trump before that.
JKN stated that it is expected to generate income mainly from merchandising and licensing fees, broadcasting fees and ticket sales.

An A-list reputation invites celebrity friends, of course. According to GMA Network, Jakrajutatip is close pals with actor and model Clint Bondad. She also hung out with popular Filipino actors Derrick Monasterio, Ken Chan, Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards and award-winning actor Dennis Trillo during a JKN gala dinner. She’s also been snapped with actor Pattaradet Sa-nguankwamdee.

She has a boyfriend and two kids

If you assumed Jakrajutatip is too busy for romance, think again. She has a British boyfriend, per Conan Daily, who she’s believed to have met in 2013, but there’s no further public information about him.
Jakrajutatip also has two kids via surrogacy. In a Thai interview by a JKN official, she spoke about the difficulties of having children via surrogacy in Thailand, explaining that she had to fly to Greece to make it happen. She revealed that she had to spend a total of around US$800,000 to have her two adorable children.
What’s her net worth?

With her massive business empire, Jakrajutatip is said to be one of Southeast Asia’s wealthiest trans women, as per GMA Network.
Her Instagram posts show off her extravagant lifestyle, complete with a Aston Martin cars and private jets. According to Forbes in 2020, she was the third richest transgender person in the world at the time holding an estimated net worth of US$210 million. This puts her wealth above former Olympic athlete and TV personality Caitlyn Jenner and Lana Wachowski, one of the directors of the legendary Hollywood trilogy, The Matrix.
