She’s got more than 57 million followers on Instagram and has cemented her name as a top league Bollywood star. So when she was connected to a high-profile money laundering case because of an alleged relationship nobody knew about, Jacqueline Fernandez made headlines for all the wrong reasons. To make matters worse, while she remained mum on the issue, it was revealed late last year that her would-be lover, Sukesh Chandrashekhar, is actually married and that her name appeared in his charge sheet.

She was further scrutinised after it was confirmed she had been questioned by officials for her potential role in the case. Things haven’t let up since the start of 2022, with a leaked saucy picture of the two together seemingly putting all doubts of their relationship to rest.

That racy leaked picture

A previously unseen image of the Bollywood star with Chandrashekhar went viral on social media in early January 2022. It shows Chandrashekhar kissing Fernandez on the nose, while Fernandez has a love bite on her neck. It definitely gives the impression that the two are romantically involved.

Another snap of them together was also leaked last year. This one shows Chandrashekhar kissing Fernandez on the neck while she is looking down and giggling.

Inside the money laundering case

Chandrashekhar was arrested in August 2021 on several charges, including an alleged role in a US$27 million (Rs 200 crore) extortion case. India TV News reported that the 32-year-old admitted he is in a relationship with Fernandez, but insisted she is not connected to the allegations against him. According to the programme, he also claimed he was being extorted by jail officers.

And what about Fernandez? According to India Today, the 36-year-old actress was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate to establish whether she had a role in the case. India Today reported that she claimed she is a victim and that she has cooperated with officials. Chandrashekhar, meanwhile, was widely reported to have denied the claims against him, and hit back at the press dubbing him a “thug” and “con man”.
Adding to the drama is the fact that Chandrashekhar is married and his wife, actress Leena Maria Paul, was arrested with him. Hindustan Times even reported that officials believe Paul was the brains behind the schemes.

Indian Express reported that Chandrashekhar and Fernandez continued to talk while the former was jailed, and he charted a flight for her from Mumbai to Chennai when he was on bail.
According to the paper, he bought her luxury gifts during their relationship, including designer goods from Gucci, Hermès and even a Mini Cooper. The publication also reported that he bought her four Persian cats, a horse and diamonds. The outlandish claims continue with news he apparently offered her a role in a Hollywood movie to top it all off, claiming he was in contact with Leonardo DiCaprio. According to India Today, the actress believed Chandrashekhar was the owner of Sun TV and fell for his charms.
Her pleas for privacy

After the latest image of Fernandez with her disgraced supposed bae was leaked, she appealed to her fans and media friends to stop circulating images of a “nature that intrude my privacy and personal space”. She admitted she was going through a “rough patch”, but said she was sure she would get through it.
