Tycoon Albert Yeung Sau-shing has had plenty of high-profile brushes with the law - as victim, suspect and litigant.

He is chairman of the vast Emperor Group, which employs more than 5,000 people in entertainment, property, finance and catering.

He was kidnapped in Central in April 1989, has been arrested, and has had his business properties vandalised many times. Police have raided a disco at his Emperor Byron Hotel in Happy Valley more than once.

His family also has been in the spotlight.

His son, Gilbert, was accused of assaulting a banker in Lan Kwai Fong in 1997 and was bound over after the prosecution offered no evidence against him.

In 2000, Gilbert Yeung was caught in possession of drugs at a rave party and fined $7,000.

Early this year his sexual exploits made the cover of Eastweek  magazine, owned by his father.

Teen heart-throbs connected to the Yeung empire include Nicholas Tse Ting-fung, Joey Yung Cho-yee and Edison Chen Koon-hei, who also have been in the limelight over skirmishes with authorities in the past year.

Tse, whose record label EGG is owned by Albert Yeung, was arrested for allegedly asking a driver from his company to take the blame for crashing his $2 million Ferrari. The driver, Shing Kwok-ting, was jailed for four months for perverting the course of justice. Tse has not been charged.

Last August, Albert Yeung was apprehended by detectives, who boarded a British Airways flight from London, in connection with a case of alleged assault on disc jockey and actor Leung Sze-ho.

His arrest prompted wild scenes outside the Kowloon West regional crime unit headquarters, where about 100 reporters and photographers were waiting for his release.

He and Joey Yung, also arrested over the same incident, were later freed without charge, but not before launching six lawsuits against the media.

Albert Yeung was acquitted of alleged criminal intimidation and false imprisonment in 1995 after all five prosecution witnesses said they could not recall details of the alleged offences.
