IN Waterworld, everybody looks out for Tina Majorino's spunky character Enola. In Hollywood, everybody looks out for Tina Majorino. Period.

Enola's tattooed back bears the secret map to the highly sought after 'Dryland'. In real life, Majorino bears the name-tag of a young star who can create convincing characters that provide good box office pull.

At the tender age of 10, Majorino already has two Hollywood motion pictures under her belt - When a Man Loves a Woman (with Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan) and Corrina, Corrina (with Whoopi Goldberg and Ray Liotta).

Now she can add to her credentials a starring role in the most expensive movie ever made. With a budget of around US$180 million (around HK$1 billion), Waterworld also stars Kevin Costner and Jeanne Tripplehorn.

So how does it feel to rub shoulders with movie big names, such as Kevin Costner? 'I met Kevin Costner in Hawaii and he taught me to swim [in the film] and stuff, then we flew to Los Angeles for more filming.

'It was fun and really exciting,' Majorino said.

So exciting, she fell into water more than once.

She recalled: 'I would stand at the top of the trimaran, then it would snap and I would fall in, going under the water.

'When I came up all these hands would be reaching through the net and they'd jump in to get me. It was really scary, but now when I think of it, it was funny.'  Waterworld is set 500 years in the future, when the polar ice caps have melted and the earth is covered in water. Earthlings are forced to live in floating cities that are constantly under attack by the Smokers - the baddies - captained by the Deacon (Dennis Hopper). Everyone is searching for the 'Dryland'.

'Enola is very tough, brave and strong. Some people think that she brings trouble, while others think she has got this talent for 'drying' and the secret to the Dryland.

'The Smokers are after her so that they can get to the Dryland first.' The heroic Mariner, needless to say, comes in the form of Costner.

Even though Majorino has no immediate plans for another film - she is always on the look out for a good script. But that's only after mum has given it the nod.



Tina, 10, is old hand
